Have you ever spent moments admiring the sunset or sunrise? Have you ever had an opportunity to gaze at a distance across the ocean or a great lake? How about gazing at a distant mountain top? Awe and wonder are what comes to my mind when I have those opportunities. Sometimes I begin to imagine what is on the other side of that farthest scene that I see.
It is especially soothing when I am troubled with some issue in my life and I am struggling to come up with the right answers. The vision of the horizon helps me think out of the box. It can help me think beyond what weak solutions I have come up with thus far. I find that when I can take my mind off of myself and my inability to solve the situation a sort of peace embraces me. The vision of the horizon opens my mind and spirit to be open to hearing God’s word and solution.
I think of having an openness to hearing God like the picture of Jesus standing at a door knocking but there is only a door handle on one side, my side. How open am I to listening to God and being open to receiving Him and His solution. Do I see Him as if to peek through the peep hole in the door, more out of skepticism? Or do I crack the door open ever so slightly maybe out of curiosity? Or do I throw the door open with wide open arms totally trusting in Him and surrendering to Him, the ultimate problem solver?
If I am fully engulfed in the secular world then it is all about me being in control and using the peep hole to determine the ins and outs. When it is all about me or looking to someone else in authority in this human world to fix things then it becomes an emotional and exhausting existence. If our vision is enhanced by our Faith, our Hope, and our Love then we have chosen to foundationally live receiving and trusting in God and His providence. We have chosen to follow Jesus calmly and more confidently in His promise of what is beyond the horizon.
That Faith in God reminds us of was written in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.” It is what’s beyond the horizon!
In Psalm 62:8, “Pour out your heart before him.” We are given clear direction. This direction calls me to think beyond the problem and more about what lies over the horizon. Thinking of God’s big picture puts things in a proper perspective. If we live each day thinking big picture, meaning God’s plan and call for us and being in close relationship with Him, then we should be able to live each day in a bigger and better way. Receiving His love and sharing it with others on our journey beyond.
Any challenge before me no matter the magnitude at the moment will be insignificant in the big picture. Yes, it is important to find the right solution but a moment of Awe and Wonder will cause me to remember God’s big picture and His love.
I am so grateful for Jesus coming into our world and showing us the light. Now it is our turn to Shine Like the Son. Let us focus on the horizon and help others to do the same in God’s love. God bless you.
